Notes:

  • Before rewiring any ceiling fan, turn off electrical current at source by turning off circuit breakers.
  • CAUTION: Failing to disconnect power supply to ceiling fan may cause serious injury or death.

ZE-109 Wiring Instructions

Wiring Steps For Ceiling Fans:

  1. Make sure the existing light switch has 2 wires. If there are 3 wires, A 3-wire switch is required.
  2. Cut the two wires from the existing light switch using wire stripper.
  3. Strip black wires around 1/2 inch.
  4. Connect one black wire from the light switch to one black wire from the ceiling fan.
  5. Connect the other black wire from the light switch to the other black wire from the ceiling fan.
  6. Secure connection between the wires using wire connectors by twisting them in a clockwise (Connection of wires must be secured, otherwise, it may result in fire hazard, electrical shock or serious injury).

Zing Ear ZE-208s E89885 Wiring Instructions

Zing Ear ZE-208s E89885 - Brass Finish

Notes:

  • Before rewiring any ceiling fan, turn off electrical current at source by switching off circuit breakers.
  • WARNING: Failure to disconnect power supply to ceiling fan may result in serious injury or death.

Steps:

  1. Check wires and make sure to observe and write down which color wire from the fan is connected to which wire on fan switch (1, 2, 3, L).
  2. Cut the four wires from the existing fan switch using wire stripper and set it away.
  3. Strip wires around 1/2 inch.
  4. Connect the Black wire (L) from the new fan switch to wire noted in step 1.
  5. Connect the red wire (1) from the new fan switch to wire noted in step 1.
  6. Connect the Blue wire (2) from the new fan switch to wire noted in step 1.
  7. Connect the White wire (3) from the new fan switch to wire noted in step 1.
  8.  Secure connection between the wires using wire connectors by twisting them clockwise (Connection of wires must be tested and verified, otherwise it may result in fire hazard, electrical shock or serious injuries).

Color Codes For Fans (Your Fan Wires Color & Position May Vary)

  • Harbor Breeze ceiling fan: L=Black, 3=Purple, 2=Brown, 1=Grey
  • Hampton Bay ceiling fan: L=Black, 3=Grey 2=Brown, 1=Purple
  • Hampton Bay ceiling fan – Alternate colors: L=Black, 3=Yellow, 2=Purple, 1=Red
  • Hunter ceiling fan: L=Black, 3=Green, 2=Brown, 1=Grey
  • Some basket fans: L=Black (power), 3=Black (not power), 2=Blue, 1=Red
  • Some exhaust fans: L=Black (power), 3=White, 2=Brown, 1=Red

Additional Wiring Guide

  • L: Black
  • 3: Attached to motor wire
  • 2: Attached to motor wire
  • 1: Attached to reverse switch terminal

Capacitor Information

Usually, there is no connection between this switch and the fan capacitor; however, the capacitor should have one microfarad reading and should have 2-3 wires. Two of the wires should be the same color on one end, for example, one end has 2 reds and the other end has 1 White

Notes:

  • Before rewiring any ceiling fan, turn off electrical current at source by turning off circuit breakers.
  • Failing to disconnect the power supply to ceiling fan may result in severe injury or death.
  • Do not cut the wires off the existing switch

Steps:

  1. Write down the color of each wire and the portal number to which they are attached on the switch.
  2. Remove wires from existing fan switch. If wires are hard to remove, insert a large sewing needle or a paper clip into each hole (numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, L) and pull the wire out.
  3. Make sure that the wire lead length is the same length as the line beside word “STRIP”
  4. Insert each wire into the portal as in the previous switch (see step 1). Wires should be inserted into the slots on side of the switch not the holes on surface

Zing Ear ZE-268s6 Fan Switch (Brass Finish)

Notes:

  • Failure to disconnect power to the ceiling fan may cause electrical shock, fire hazard, serious injury, or death
  • Do not cut wires, multi-strand wires are solid and soldered together so they can be attached to the switch

  1. Write down the color of each wire and the portal number to which they are attached on the switch.
  2. Remove wires from existing fan switch. If wires are hard to remove, insert a paper clip or a large sewing needle into each hole (numbered 1, 2, 3, L) and pull the wire out (repeat this step for each wire)
  3. Make sure that the wire lead length is the same length as the line beside word “STRIP”

Switch Wiring Based on Capacitor Connection (Your Capacitor configuration May Vary)

The capacitor may have 4-5 wires with 2 or 3 μF readings such as CBB61, or 3 wires (different in color). The capacitor usually has 2 wires on one end: 2 blacks, 2 grays, or 2 yellows. One of these wires is connected to terminal “1” on the switch

  • L= Black
  • 2= Larger/higher reading from the capacitor
  • 1= Common from the capacitor
  • 3= Smaller/lower reading from the capacitor

Zing Ear ZE-268s6 (3-speed fan switch) can be used to replace ZE-268s5 and ZE-208s5-1T (4-speed fan switch); however, the ceiling fan will no longer support 4 speeds as ZE-268s6 supports 3 speeds only.

Note: On ZE-268s5 or ZE-208s5-1T, begin from terminal number “L” and go around counterclockwise
